This image thing about getting shut down is untrue. Proboards has no rule against using any photos found on the internet, especially as we are not claiming ownership over them. Limiting our photo options to whatever stock photos are is severely debilitating for me as a user of your wonderful forum. Is there any way this could be debated?

Since im not the owner i cant say if its debatable or not but i have my own sites and yes i have seen this rule on pictures on Proboards so far as i know we can get shut down if they are 'stolen'.
Plus stock images arent that hard to find im sure if you or anyone needed help you can ask and we would be right there to answer!.

I am confused because after going over the terms of service it said nothing about images requiring stock. Many photos on the internet are not tagged with credits as most are too lazy or they are not proper. For instance, were I to edit a photo and upload it to photobucket, would it then be stock? Or would it be unstock still?
Also, as long as we credit whomever or wherever we "snagged" the pictures from off the internet, the chain of ownership is preserved and therefore we do not officially claim ownership and using un stocked photos would then be permitted yes?

Stock photos must say stock. Like on deviantart you can click on the left side for resourses and stock images. Thats how you know its stock. STOCK MEANS THAT PERSON WHO PUT UP THE IMAGE SAYS ANYONE CAN USE IT AS LONG AS YOU CREDIT THEM.
At least for me i put this rule because i have people who owned images come and yell at me about my members using their images and stealing them and far worse. That why we use this.
{waits for Dream, she could help you more i think}

I have seen sites in severe trouble for stole images not even from proboards but the owners themselves discover it and attack your forum. It isn't worth it to not have stock.
Either search stock on Deviantart or go on Flickr and search for images with a Creative Commons license that allows you to shar/modify/adapt the work as long as you credit them on the image. In Flickr all you have to do is hit advanced search and the options for Creative Commons are right at the bottom so you just check the boxes and it will only give you CC photos.

If we give credit and don't claim it as our own, would that be considered against the rules? For example, if I was to use an image from Flickr and just put a copyright symbol with the name of the photographer on the image with flickr after:
That wouldn't be breaking rules. Credit where it is due and where you found it...

Alright, stock photos have to used. It is not that much of a hindrance, and I don't require that you have a picture. Just because you give someone credit does not mean that they wanted you to use their image in the first place. Therefore, only stock photos will be used on this forum. Proboards doesn't want someone going off on them about their photos anymore than we do. They would probably shut us down if only for the people to get their way. I'm sure if they pushed it, we could be taken to court for it as it is stealing. And by we, I mean me. I am the owner of this forum, and therefore I am blamed for allowing people to use stolen images on my forum. So stock photos will me used, and any photo that is not stock will be removed. And just let me say this now, if you get the forum in trouble it will be your head. I will come right out and say "so and so did it, here is there IP address and e-mail address" because I can see both of those. I'm not getting in trouble for you.
If you want to upload your images to photobucket, fine, put credit on them if the artist requires it. A lot of times you can use stock without crediting. Some people just don't care if you use their pictures, and if they post them as stock and don't ask to credited, you don't necessarily have to.
And to Ban, if the photo is not stock do not use it even if you credit it. If it isn't stock, the photographer doesn't want you to use and can still throw a fit about it.
And so, the bottom line is.. You must use stock photos and follow the photographers rules. That's it.
